BONNEVILLE T120

Full professional Restoration has been performed on this beautiful Bonneville 650. This is the last year pre unit Bonne 650. The restoration was done by Triumph Specialist in Los Angeles roughly 7 years ago. Bike is ready to show or ride. The asking price is less than the cost of the restoration ticket. Many regard the late pre-unit Bonnevilles as the most desirable versions of Triumph’s top twin. In 1960, Triumph introduced a new dual-downtube frame that was lighter than the previous single-downtube frame, but the new frame lacked sufficient strength and was prone to cracking, especially in off-road competition. Triumph fixed the problem, first by fitting a strengthening brace and then by adding an extra reinforcing top tube. The dealer and customer response was more favorable to the 1960 models’ revised styling. Gone were the headlight nacelle and valanced fenders, replaced by a paired speedometer and tachometer and narrow blade fenders. Between 1960 and 1962, the factory also made numerous changes to the engine to reduce vibration, trying different crankshaft balance factors and a cylinder head attached to the frame, eventually even fitting a new one-piece crankshaft. The “chopped” Amal carbs were replaced with full Monoblocs, though both had float chambers on the same side, making “tickling” the right-side carb tricky. Electrical gremlins were attenuated with a revised alternator. While the duplex Bonnevilles are sometimes disregarded because of the problematic frame, Triumph successfully resolved this and most other issues. The austere styling and sporting good looks of the 1962 model make it perhaps the ultimate pre-unit Bonneville. This impressive restoration enhances the iconic features of this beautiful machine.
